Communication Problems Associated With Communication

The word communication can be defined as the process of exchanging facts, ideas, opinions, feelings or attitudes and as a means that individuals or organizations share meaning and understanding with one another (Rayudu, 2010, pp. 13). Communication can also be represented as a two-way process involving the sender of the message and the receiver of the message (Rayudu, 2010, pp. 14, 18). Rayudu (2010) specified that communication is effective when the message is shared and understood with one another, however there cannot be effective communication if the information is not understood by the receiver in the same sense as it was intended to be by the communicator (pp. 15). Rai and Rai (2009) explained that unexpected responses and reactions, misinterpretations and misunderstandings occur [when] one brings a different background to each communication event (pp. 2). In addition, communication problems could occur due to lack of feedback and interaction (Rayudu, 2010). Accordingly, the pr imary objective for this paper is to determine the type of communication approach that was used in the scenario, explain the verbal and non-verbal forms of communication that were presented in the scenario, rewrite the case scenario that would demonstrate successful communication, discuss areas of communication that need to be remedied, and how to help John and Jane communicate effectively with one another.
